Located in the heart of Amsterdam, Orbit offers a modern Asian dining experience featuring a menu designed for sharing. The restaurant serves a range of starters and mains, combining traditional Asian flavors with contemporary flair. Intrigued by the concept, we decided to give it a try on a quiet Monday evening, hoping for a standout experience.

The Menu: A Mix of Starters and Mains

Orbit’s menu encourages sharing, making it ideal for those who love variety. For our starters, we sampled:

• Miso Lobster
• Coquilles (Scallops)
• Peking Duck
• Ribeye Rolls
• Softshell Crabs

For mains, we chose:

• Lamb Rack
• Red Snapper
• Sake Beef

The menu certainly offered a good balance of seafood and meat options, and we were excited to explore the flavors of each dish.

The Experience: Slow Start, Quick Turnaround

When we arrived, the restaurant was noticeably quiet, which was expected for a Monday evening. However, despite the lack of a crowd, it took some time for the staff to take our orders. This initial delay was a bit frustrating but not enough to dampen our enthusiasm.

Once our order was in, the dishes started arriving at a quick pace. Unfortunately, while the food was served promptly, the quality didn’t quite live up to our expectations.

The Food: Good, but Not Exceptional

The dishes were good overall, but they lacked the finesse and depth of flavor we were hoping for. Highlights included the Peking Duck and Ribeye Rolls, which had well-balanced flavors and a nice presentation. The Miso Lobster and Softshell Crabs, while tasty, felt underwhelming compared to similar dishes we’ve tried at other restaurants.

As for the mains, the Sake Beef stood out as the most enjoyable dish, with a tender texture and subtle, flavorful seasoning. The Lamb Rack and Red Snapper, on the other hand, were average—not bad by any means, but not memorable either.

Final Thoughts: A One-Time Visit

Orbit offers a sleek, modern take on Asian dining, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark in terms of quality and value. While the dishes were enjoyable, they didn’t stand out enough to justify a return visit, especially given the price point.

With so many excellent Asian-inspired restaurants in Amsterdam, Orbit faces tough competition. While it may be worth a visit if you’re in the area and curious to try their menu, we believe there are better options offering superior quality for a similar price.

Would we visit again? Probably not. But if you do decide to give it a try, the Sake Beef and Peking Duck are worth ordering!
