Must Do’s on Cyprus

Cyprus is an island full of fun activities and wonderful sights, making it a perfect destination for all types of travelers. From breathtaking coastlines to historic ruins, charming villages and vibrant nightlife, here’s a guide to some Must Do’s on Cyprus..

  1. Explore the beautiful coastline of southern Cyprus

One of the best ways to explore Cyprus is to rent a car. The beautiful coastline of the island, is much easier to navigate by car, and parking is often free or costs a flat rate of €2.50. During our visit, we parked at several beaches and in town for only €2 to €3 per day. Driving from Paphos to Paralimni was a pleasure, but Ayia Napa stood out as our favorite spot, thanks to its beautiful blue lagoons.

For a more unique beach experience, search for lesser-known beaches on Google Maps. We discovered two almost-private beaches this way, which made our adventure even more special.

2. Rent a Buggy or Quad on the West Side

If you’re looking for some off-road fun, renting a buggy or quad near Paphos is a must. Regular rental cars are not allowed off-road and often lack the power needed for rugged terrain. On the west side of Cyprus, you’ll find the Blue Lagoon, beautiful waterfalls, and amazing hiking areas that can only be accessed off-road.

  1. Stay in a Mountain Apartment

For those who love fresh air and tranquility, renting an apartment in the mountains is a perfect choice. We stayed in a small village called Lofou, where the air was incredibly clean and the surroundings peaceful. Our accommodation, Oinoessa Traditional Boutique – Hotel Guest Houses, was well-equipped with a breakfast basket, wines, a fully furnished kitchen, and even a jacuzzi. The road to the village is winding but offers stunning views of the island.

While in the mountains, don’t miss the Mesa Potamos Falls. It’s a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the sounds of the waterfall.

4. Savor Cypriot Cuisine

Food lovers will rejoice in Cyprus’s culinary offerings. We had a 28-piece mezze dinner at To Eklektikon, which was both filling and delicious. The friendly staff and a chef who personally asked for our feedback made the experience even more memorable. We also dined at Dionysus Mansion, enjoying authentic Greek food in a beautiful garden setting, which provided an unforgettable dining experience.

  1. Visit the Camel Park

The Camel Park is a fun destination for families and animal lovers. Here, you can interact with goats, camels, donkeys, and small monkeys. Feeding the monkeys costs €5 per person, and a cameraman is available to capture the moment, with photos available for purchase afterward.

  1. Dive into Adventure

For those seeking adventure, Cyprus offers plenty of exciting activities:

Scuba Diving: The Zenobia wreck near Larnaca is one of the world’s top dive sites. This sunken ferry, at a depth of 42 meters, is teeming with marine life and is ideal for experienced divers.

Hiking: The Troodos Mountains provide numerous hiking trails for all fitness levels. The Caledonia Falls Trail is particularly beautiful, leading through lush forests to a stunning waterfall.

  1. Enjoy Local Festivals

Cyprus is a land of vibrant festivals, offering a deep dive into local culture and traditions:

Limassol Carnival: Held in the weeks leading up to Lent, this carnival features lively parades, music, and dancing.

Wine Festival: Celebrated every September in Limassol, this festival highlights Cyprus’s rich winemaking history with tastings, traditional music, and local delicacies.

  1. Experience the Nightlife

Cyprus boasts a vibrant nightlife scene:

Ayia Napa: Famous for its buzzing nightlife, Ayia Napa is home to numerous bars, clubs, and beach parties that go on until the early hours.

Limassol: For a more relaxed evening, head to Limassol’s old town, where you’ll find chic bars and cozy tavernas with live music.

  1. Relax on Stunning Beaches

Cyprus’s beaches are among the best in the Mediterranean:

Nissi Beach: Located in Ayia Napa, this beach is known for its crystal-clear waters and lively beach bars, perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.

Fig Tree Bay: Situated in Protaras, Fig Tree Bay offers golden sands and a serene atmosphere, ideal for families and those seeking a peaceful day by the water. Sunbeds and parasols are available for €7.50 for a set, but you can also relax on the sand.

  1. Indulge in Fine Dining and Cocktails

For a unique dining experience, try the Ciao e Pepe at Nubilia Rooftop. This dish, prepared in a huge Parmesan cheese wheel at your table, is a must-try for pasta and truffle lovers. Their cocktails are also highly recommended.

For a fun night out, visit the Flintstone Bar. This quirky bar, designed to look like the Flintstones’ home, offers a variety of special cocktails and classic drinks, along with complimentary fresh popcorn.

11. Go shopping in one of the malls

When you need a break from the sun, visit one of Cyprus’s large shopping malls. They offer a cool respite and a variety of shopping options.

12. Take a sunset boat trip from Larnaca

One of the most memorable experiences in Cyprus is a sunset boat ride from Larnaca harbor. As the sun sinks below the horizon and casts a golden glow over the sea, sail along the coast and enjoy the serene beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. The peaceful setting and stunning views make for an unforgettable evening.

13. Enjoy Wine Tasting at Vineria

Wine enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to visit Vineria, where you can sample over 200 different wines. This venue offers a cozy atmosphere and a chance to taste some of the finest wines Cyprus has to offer. Whether you’re a connoisseur or just enjoy a good glass of wine, Vineria is a must-visit.
