If you are looking for a serene, peaceful and refreshing escape on the beautiful island of Zanzibar, then I highly recommend visiting the Maalum Nature Reserve. As soon as you step foot on the property, you will be transported to a tranquil oasis. Upon arrival, you will be handed a towel (in case you forgot yours) and led through the stunning gardens to the lockers and natural pool.

The water in the natural pool is refreshing, with plenty of shaded areas and some sunny spots. You can swim with little fish swimming around you. The cost to swim in the pool is 40,000 Shillings per person for 1.5 hours, which is a reasonable price for the experience. The reserve also has an amazing restaurant that serves some of the best and refreshing juices you’ll ever taste. I tried the mango, avocado, and passion fruit juices, and they all tasted incredibly fresh and exactly like the fruit you find on the island. The mango was sweet, the avocado was nutty, and the passion fruit had a delightful sweet and sour flavor.

In addition to the juices, the food at the restaurant was also incredible. I ordered the tuna tartare with avocado, mango, and toast, which was a unique and flavorful dish. We also ordered a tasty burger with fries. While the entry fee to the reserve is relatively high, the food and juices are quite affordable and definitely worth every penny.

The Maalum Nature Reserve is an excellent place to relax and unwind while enjoying the beauty of nature. The reserve’s lush gardens, refreshing natural pool, and delicious food and drinks make it a must-visit spot for anyone visiting Zanzibar.

When you visit them in the peak season, making a reservation is neccesary. We visited them in March, so there was almost no one there.
