A Visit to Les Petits Crus in Paris: Wine and Cheese Pairing at Its Finest

If you’re a wine and cheese lover, Les Petits Crus in Paris offers a unique experience that is hard to pass up. Located in a charming Parisian neighborhood, this spot specializes in wine and cheese tastings designed that for each cheese preference have a matching wine for you. Whether you like creamy, spicy or hard cheeses, you’re sure to find something to suit you here.

The concept is simple but brilliant: you choose the type of cheese you want to try and they pair each cheese with a glass of wine specially chosen to complement the flavors. It’s an affordable, fun experience, perfect for a casual evening or a special occasion.

How It Works

Before the tasting begins, you choose how many cheeses you want to try, which also determines the number of wines you’ll be served. For example, if you choose six cheeses, you get six perfectly matched wines.

Upon arrival, we were directed to our table (pro tip: reservations are highly recommended) and immediately welcomed with a bottle of water and a basket of bread. Not much later, the wines and cheeses arrived in a well-organized fashion. Each wine was served in glass tubes and the cheeses were neatly displayed on a slate plate, numbered for easy reference.

We chose six creamy cheeses, which were absolutely delicious but also quite filling, especially since we had taken a few bites at another restaurant beforehand. We were given a QR code so we could easily find detailed information about the wines and cheeses, including where they came from, their tasting notes and what to expect in terms of flavors and aromas.

What We Loved

The selection of cheeses and wines at Les Petits Crus is undoubtedly of high quality. Each pairing felt thoughtfully curated, and we were genuinely impressed by the balance between the creamy cheeses and the wines that accompanied them. The self-guided experience via the QR code was an interesting touch, giving us full control over the pace of our tasting.

The ambiance inside was cozy and inviting, but we decided to sit outside due to the warm weather. The restaurant itself offers a relaxed and intimate atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for a low-key but luxurious evening out.

Room for Improvement

While the concept is fun and affordable, we found ourselves wishing for a little more interaction with the staff. After being seated and receiving our wine and cheese, there wasn’t much engagement from the waitstaff. We didn’t get any explanations or storytelling about the pairings, which would have added an extra layer to the experience.

It would have been even more enjoyable if the cheeses and wines were served in rounds, with a short explanation about why each pair worked so well together. A bit more personal service would elevate this already enjoyable experience.

Also, the outdoor seating could use some improvement. The tables were quite small for the wine and cheese tasting setup, and the chairs were narrow and not the most comfortable. If you’re on the larger side or prefer more space, the indoor seating may be a better option.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Les Petits Crus offers a fantastic wine and cheese pairing experience that is definitely worth trying if you find yourself in Paris. The quality of the products is undeniable, and the concept is fun and approachable. However, a bit more interaction with the staff and more comfortable seating options would have made the experience even better.

That said, if you’re in the mood for an affordable yet high-quality wine and cheese experience, Les Petits Crus won’t disappoint. It’s the perfect spot to indulge in Parisian flavors with a creative twist, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want to enjoy a cozy evening out.
