During our visit to Lanzarote in December, we discovered that while many restaurants had closed for the season, there were still plenty that remained open, offering a diverse range of culinary delights. While we had been indulging in tapas, grilled fish, and meat throughout our trip, my craving for sushi led us on a quest to find a sushi restaurant on the island. Fortunately, we stumbled upon restaurant Kokoxili Sushi, a hidden gem that satisfied our sushi cravings and left us wanting more. In fact, we enjoyed our experience so much that we dined here twice during our stay.
Kokoxili Sushi stands out from other dining establishments on Lanzarote due to its focus on Japanese cuisine, particularly sushi. As we perused the menu, we were delighted by the extensive variety of sushi rolls available. Unlike an all-you-can-eat establishment, Kokoxili Sushi offered a curated selection of rolls, ensuring that each dish was meticulously prepared and bursting with flavor.
During our first visit, we eagerly sampled the salmon tartare, fried sushi with salmon tartare, California rolls, avocado rolls, ebi tempura, and rainbow rolls. Every bite was a testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The salmon tartare was delicate and delicious, the fried sushi added a delightful crunch to the tender salmon, and the California rolls and avocado rolls were packed with vibrant flavors. The ebi tempura showcased succulent shrimp wrapped in a light and crispy batter, while the rainbow rolls featured a colorful medley of fresh fish that danced across our taste buds.
Impressed by the flavors and presentation, we couldn’t resist returning for a second dinner at Kokoxili Sushi. On this occasion, we decided to pair our sushi with a local wine from Lanzarote called Yaiza. The blue bottle and the unique character of the wine added an extra touch of enjoyment to our meal. The combination of the wine and sushi truly complemented each other, creating a harmonious culinary experience.
Aside from the exceptional cuisine, Kokoxill Sushi also paid attention to the finer details. The interior of the restaurant exuded a distinct Japanese influence, with subtle touches that added to the ambiance. One detail that caught our attention was the Japanese-styled toilet, a unique and unexpected feature that added a touch of authenticity to the dining experience.
With its diverse range of sushi rolls, each bursting with freshness, we found ourselves returning for a second visit. The addition of the local wine, Yaiza, further enhanced our dining experience. If you find yourself on Lanzarote and craving sushi, Kokoxili Sushi is a must-visit destination. From the delightful cuisine to the Japanese-inspired interior details, this hidden gem promises to transport you to a culinary slice of Japan on this beautiful island.
