Bar and restaurant Kikkie van Prinsensluis: A Bar and Restaurant Near the Prinsengracht

Amsterdam is filled with charming spots for food and drinks, and Kikkie van Prinsensluis is one of the latest names gaining attention in and around Amsterdam. Located near the scenic Prinsengracht, this bar and restaurant has been making waves online, particularly for its schnitzel sandwich. With so many positive reviews, we couldn’t resist stopping by to see if it lived up to the hype.

The Food Experience:

Naturally, we had to try their famous chicken schnitzel sandwich. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite meet our expectations. While the concept was promising, the execution fell short. The bread was oily, the schnitzel itself was covered in grease, and some bites were overwhelmingly salty. The sauce complemented the sandwich well, but overall, the dish was just too heavy and greasy.

In addition to the schnitzel sandwich, we also ordered the smashburger. The quality of the ingredients was evident, but the taste reminded us of a more refined version of a McDonald’s burger. It was decent, but not particularly exciting or memorable enough to try it out again.

Service and Atmosphere:

The service at Kikkie van Prinsensluis was friendly, but again nothing exceptional. Our drinks arrived quickly, which was a plus. However, we did have to wait quite a while for our food, which was slightly frustrating given the fact that it wasn’t busy during our visit.

The restaurant itself has a cozy and inviting ambiance, making it a nice place to relax or even have a drink by the canal. However, given the food experience, it might be better suited for those looking for just drinks rather than a full meal.

Final Verdict:

While Kikkie van Prinsensluis has an appealing location and a promising menu, our experience was underwhelming. The schnitzel sandwich was too greasy, and the smashburger, though made with good ingredients, lacked a unique flavor profile. The service was decent but not outstanding. Overall, it was an okay experience, but not one that would bring us back anytime soon.

If you’re in the area and just looking for a drink by the canal, Kikkie van Prinsensluis could be a pleasant stop. However, if you’re searching for an unforgettable meal, you might want to explore other options in Amsterdam.
