Kaasbar | 8.8

If you’re a cheese lover, then De Kaasbar in Amsterdam is the place for you. This unique concept combines the best of both worlds – cheese and drinks. From the moment you step into the bar, you’re greeted with the delightful, rich scent of various cheeses wafting through the air. The atmosphere is cozy yet vibrant, offering a welcoming environment for cheese enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. The bar itself is very atmospheric, with a warm and inviting ambiance that makes it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy some quality time. They have tables inside at the cheese train, so you can grab the cheeses you like from the moving selection, regular tables for a more traditional dining experience, and even tables on the terrace if you prefer to enjoy your cheese outdoors on a nice day.

At De Kaasbar, you can choose from a wide range of cheeses to eat with your drink. You can go for a wine or beer, or if you’re feeling adventurous, why not try both? On our visit, we started with wine, but curiosity took over, so we switched to beer. This turned out to be a great decision, as the beers brought out different, delightful notes in the cheeses we tried. Each cheese is paired perfectly with a recommended drink to bring out the best in both, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Some of the cheeses on offer are truly unique, such as the cheese with chocolate, which offers a surprising yet delightful combination of sweet and savory. It’s an experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional cheese pairings and introduces you to new flavors. But if you’re not in the mood for something so adventurous, there are also more familiar cheeses available, similar to those you might find in your local supermarket, but often with a higher quality and richer taste. This mix of the exotic and the familiar ensures that everyone can find something they love at De Kaasbar. The bar also offers “droge worst,” or dry sausage, which is a nice accompaniment to the cheeses, adding a savory contrast to the creamy and rich textures. However, we were a little disappointed with the “droge worst,” as it wasn’t dried enough for our liking. It’s a minor detail, but something to keep in mind if you’re particular about your charcuterie.

De Kaasbar is also located in Utrecht and often features on social deal sites with unlimited cheese eating for a certain number of hours. It’s a great way to sample a variety of cheeses and enjoy a fun evening with friends or family. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a unique dining experience, this deal makes De Kaasbar even more appealing.

In conclusion, De Kaasbar is a must-visit for anyone who loves cheese. The concept is unique and the cheeses are expertly paired with drinks to create the ultimate cheese-tasting experience. So, why not give it a try and discover the delights of De Kaasbar for yourself? Whether you’re a seasoned cheese connoisseur or just someone who enjoys a good snack with a drink, De Kaasbar offers something special that you won’t want to miss.
