Gochu Gang | 7.3

When it comes to trying out new restaurants, online reviews can be both a blessing and a curse. This was certainly the case when I stumbled upon Restaurant Gochu Gang, a home delivery restaurant in Amsterdam. Initially, I was skeptical about ordering from them since they had a few one-star reviews on Google. However, my curiosity took over when I checked their Uber Eats ratings, which showed a much more positive picture. With mixed feelings, I decided to take the risk and experience Gochu Gang’s Korean fried chicken and sides, hoping that the favorable reviews would provide a more accurate reflection of their culinary offerings.

For our order, we went for two burgers, each with its unique twist. One was topped with flavorful kimchi, and the other came with a generous serving of coleslaw. Additionally, we couldn’t resist the temptation of trying their fried mandu, a Korean delight that sounded like the perfect accompaniment to our meal. The prospect of combining these Korean flavors with classic burger elements intrigued us and set our expectations high for a unique and flavorful dining experience.

Regrettably, the mandu didn’t live up to our expectations. With an unpleasant, slightly stale taste, it left us disappointed. The texture was chewy, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. It was clear that this particular dish did not reflect the high standards we hoped for, and it was a letdown in an otherwise promising menu. Despite this setback, our spirits were buoyed by the anticipation of the burgers.

Thankfully, the burgers did not disappoint. The standout for me, was the chicken coleslaw burger, which boasted a delightful blend of flavors. The taste was simply amazing, leaving us craving for more with each bite. What further delighted us was the soft brioche bun used for the burgers – my personal favorite when it comes to burger bread. The bun’s light, buttery quality complemented the fillings perfectly, enhancing the overall burger experience.

However, something I noticed was that the burgers were listed as “Crispy chicken burgers,” but in reality, they lacked the crispy texture one would expect from a crispy burger. Yet, they were not soggy either, striking an unexpected balance. While the lack of crispiness didn’t bother me personally, I found it a bit misleading to label them as such. A simple change to the description could avoid any confusion for future customers. It’s important for menu descriptions to accurately reflect the dish to set proper expectations and ensure customer satisfaction.

Our experience with Gochu Gang had its highs and lows. The delicious chicken coleslaw burger stood out as a remarkable creation, while the disappointing mandu left us longing for more authentic flavors. It was a mixed bag that highlighted both the strengths and areas for improvement in their menu offerings.

In conclusion, Although not everything lived up to our expectations, the standout dishes made the experience worthwhile. As they say, you never know until you try, and it’s evident that Gochu Gang has some flavorfull treats waiting to be discovered. So, the next time you’re feeling adventurous and craving a flavorful burger, consider giving Gochu Gang a try!
