Gastrovino | 7.5

Nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, Gastrovino – De mannen van Kaas is a culinary gem for cheese enthusiasts and sandwich aficionados alike. The moment you step into this cozy store, the aroma of freshly prepared sandwiches and the promise of delightful flavors fill the air. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with rustic decor and an open kitchen that allows you to see the chefs in action, adding to the overall charm of the place.

Our gastronomic journey at Gastrovino commenced with the irresistible combination of burrata and raw ham on a sandwich. A true homage to Italian flavors, the cheese was a perfect rendition of the ones savored in the heart of Italy. What sets this sandwich apart is the generosity of burrata – an experience priced at a wallet-friendly €7,50. Say goodbye to the disappointment of receiving only a few slices of burrata; here, it’s a full and satisfying indulgence. The creamy, rich burrata was paired expertly with the delicate, savory notes of the raw ham, creating a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that was both indulgent and refined.

Adding to the symphony of flavors was the Porchetta sandwich, a savory delight that begged for an extra layer of richness. And what better way to elevate the experience than by adding cheese? The marriage of Porchetta and cheese is a match made in culinary heaven, proving that cheese does indeed make everything better. Impressed by the first round, we eagerly ordered another set of sandwiches. The DIK avocado sandwich, while enjoyable, had a slight twist – the warm avocado. While unconventional, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. Yet, the overall taste was delightful, with each bite offering a burst of creamy avocado goodness.

On the flip side, the pulled chicken sandwich, though fine, didn’t quite reach the lofty heights of the initial round. It lacked the distinctive charm and unique flavors that had captivated us earlier. Nonetheless, it was a decent choice for those seeking a milder option.

To complement our feast, we opted for a soothing cup of ginger tea. Unfortunately, we discovered that the ginger content was rather sparing. A mere four tiny pieces left us yearning for that bold, spicy kick that ginger aficionados crave. A small letdown in an otherwise delightful culinary journey.

Gastrovino is undeniably a haven for cheese and sandwich enthusiasts. Each sandwich is a testament to the culinary prowess of the chefs. While some offerings may not hit the mark as strongly as others, the overall experience is one of gastronomic satisfaction. The dedication to quality ingredients and the skillful preparation make every bite a pleasure.

As you step into this cheese paradise, be prepared to embark on a flavorful journey that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you yearning for more. Gastrovino is not just a store; it’s an experience, a celebration of the artistry that goes into crafting the perfect sandwich. So, gather your fellow food enthusiasts, explore the diverse menu, and savor the culinary delights that await you at Gastrovino – De mannen van Kaas. This charming spot is a testament to the joy of good food, and a visit here is sure to be a highlight of your culinary adventures in Amsterdam.
