Exploring too good to go “Little Tokyo” | 8.4

I discovered a little piece of Japan that has quickly become one of my favorite take-away spots. “Little Tokyo Amsterdam as the name suggests, is a charming Japanese take-away restaurant that has taken my taste buds on an exciting journey through its delectable offerings. Thanks to the Too Good To Go app, I stumbled upon this culinary treasure, and I couldn’t be happier about it.

Little Tokyo is a culinary gem, offering a delightful range of Japanese delicacies, from bento boxes to onigiri, sushi, mochi ice cream, pastries, and homemade drinks. When I first laid eyes on this restaurant’s listing on the Too Good To Go app, I was intrigued by the promise of a Japanese feast at a reduced price. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to experience their offerings, and I am delighted to share my adventure with you.

I must admit it was the most expensive rescue mission so far. Little Tokyo’s bento box caught my eye, and I eagerly placed my order for €7.33. While it was the most expensive rescue box I had tried through the app, the fact that they included fish in their offerings made the price tag more than justifiable. On the Too Good To Go app, the estimated value of what I received stood at €21.99. This certainly got my hopes up for a scrumptious meal.

I got the Salmon Saikyo Yaki bento box, priced at €18, and also got a Yuzuka, a Yuzu Lemonade, which costs €4 under regular circumstances. To my delight, my rescue bag contained exactly what was promised on the app. While some other stores I’d tried through Too Good To Go had been a tad more generous, there was a silver lining in Little Tokyo’s pricing – they knew the true value of their “waste.”

As I eagerly opened the bento box, I was greeted with an array of tantalizing flavors and colors. The Salmon Saikyo Yaki bento box was a true work of culinary art. The centerpiece was the grilled salmon, a savory delight that melted in my mouth. The bento box also included a selection of perfectly seasoned vegetables and a serving of rice. It was a delicious and satisfying meal, though I must admit that had I paid the full price of €18, I might have found it a bit lacking in portion size. Nonetheless, the flavors were exquisite, and the freshness of the ingredients shone through.

Accompanying my meal was the Yuzuka, a Yuzu Lemonade. It was my first time trying this unique drink, and I was pleasantly surprised. The Yuzuka had an interesting taste that balanced the tanginess of the yuzu fruit with a refreshing sweetness. It provided a delightful contrast to the rich flavors of the bento box, making it a perfect pairing.

Little Tokyo is a charming Japanese take-away restaurant that I’m thankful to have discovered through the Too Good To Go app. While the prices might seem steep at first, the quality you receive is certainly worth it. The restaurant’s commitment to reducing food waste by accurately pricing their rescue bags is commendable. As for the taste, it was a delightful journey through the flavors of Japan, even though the portion size left a little to be desired at the full price. I would highly recommend giving Little Tokyo a try, especially if you’re a fan of Japanese cuisine. It’s an experience that’s not to be missed, and I can’t wait to explore more of their menu in the future. This was my first time trying a bento box, and it won’t be my last. Little Tokyo has made sure of that.
