Exploring Too Good To Go: Amsterdam Cheese Deli – Worth It or Not?

As someone who loves food and a good deal, I often use Too Good To Go to rescue unsold food while trying out different spots. This time, I decided to pick up a surprise box from Amsterdam Cheese Deli, a store that specializes in cheeses, dairy, and freshly baked goods. Given their focus on quality products, I was pretty excited to see what I’d get for just €4,99. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite live up to my expectations.

Getting There – A Slightly Frustrating Start

Before even picking up my box, I ran into an issue with the Too Good To Go app. When searching for nearby stores, the app told me that Amsterdam Cheese Deli was only 2.1 km away—a quick trip, or so I thought. However, once we started heading there, I realized the actual distance was 5.7 km, which meant a 20-minute drive through Amsterdam’s busy streets instead of the short trip I had expected.

This might not be a big deal if you’re already in the area, but if you’re relying on the app’s distance estimates, be prepared for possible inaccuracies.

What Was in My Too Good To Go Box?

After finally making it to the shop, I picked up my surprise bag, eager to see what was inside. For €4,99, my box contained:
🥐 2 chocolate croissants
🥐 3 ham and cheese croissants

At first glance, this seemed like a pretty good selection. I love a good ham and cheese croissant, and a sweet treat like chocolate croissants is always welcome. But, as I quickly found out, appearances can be deceiving.

Taste Test – A Big Disappointment

I started with the ham and cheese croissants, as these were what I was most excited about. Unfortunately, my excitement faded fast. The croissants were incredibly dry—so much so that I struggled to eat them. The texture was tough, making me wonder just how long they had been sitting out. It honestly felt like they had been baked at least two days ago.

The chocolate croissants were slightly better. They weren’t fresh, but they weren’t as dried out as the ham and cheese ones. The chocolate filling was still decent, but overall, they lacked the soft, buttery texture you’d expect from a good croissant.

Is It Worth It?

While Too Good To Go is always a bit of a gamble, I had expected more from Amsterdam Cheese Deli, especially considering how high-end their shop looks. The quality of the food I received didn’t match the impression the store gives, which left me disappointed.

On the bright side, the staff was friendly, which is always a plus. But would I buy another Too Good To Go box from them? No. For €4,99, I’d rather take my chances at another bakery where the food is fresher and actually enjoyable.

Final Thoughts

Between the inaccurate location in the app and the low-quality food, this experience wasn’t great. If you’re thinking of trying Too Good To Go at Amsterdam Cheese Deli, I’d suggest looking elsewhere. There are plenty of amazing bakeries in Amsterdam that offer better deals with fresher products.
