Chinese foodhouse Dumplings is located near Westerpark. This eatery offers an great array of dishes, with their dumplings ofcourse stealing the spotlight, but the stuffed pancakes with duck and chicken, definitely deserve 2nd place.
As you approach Dumplings, you’ll notice it looks a bit like a foodtruck, looking at the size, but without the wheels. What makes it even better is the fact it is nearby Westerpark, allowing you to grab your food and have a delightful picnic in the park, surrounded by Amsterdam’s scenic beauty.
However, be prepared to join the queue – a common sight outside Dumplings. But don’t let the line discourage you; it’s a testament to the quality of the food that awaits.
Dumplings opens its doors daily from 11:00 to 20:30, offering a convenient window for a delightful lunch, dinner, or anytime snack. We decided to pay a visit at 19:00, with high hopes of indulging in their famous dumplings and ofcourse the stuffed pancakes.
Unfortunately, luck wasn’t entirely on our side that evening. At 19:15, the disappointing news reached our ears – they had run out of dumplings for the day. However, the friendly staff suggested we try their pork, duck or chicken crepes instead. Intrigued, we decided to give them a chance.
The crepes turned out to be a satisfying alternative, packed with flavorful fillings. However, we couldn’t help but notice that they were a bit too thick to be classified as traditional crepes (or atleast the ones we know from France). The texture was slightly different, but the taste was incredible. Our only minor critique was that we would have preferred a bit more pork and duck to enhance the overall experience. The crepes where stuffed with some kind of crisp, veggies and sauce, but a little more of the main item, would be appreciated.
The portion sizes surprised us, as two crepes turned out to be quite filling. In fact, we realized that a single crepe would have been enough for the two of us. These crepes are not your typical snack-size treats; they are more like a full meal, offering great value for the price. Speaking of which, at €12.50 per crepe, it’s an affordable meal option, especially in a city like Amsterdam, where you quickly spend €20 – 25 euros for a takeaway meal.
Despite the minor observations, Dumplings proved to be a delightful experience. The combination of a charming ambiance, amazing flavors, and budget-friendly pricing makes it a must-visit spot for food enthusiasts. Whether you’re a dumpling devotee or seeking an alternative crepe/pancake adventure, Dumplings has something to satisfy your Chinese cravings.
So, if you find yourself in Amsterdam near Westerpark and in need of a mouthwatering meal, make your way to Dumplings. Embrace the line, explore their unique dishes, and savor the flavors that have captured the hearts of locals and tourists alike. Bon appétit!
