Bardita | 7.6

Bardita Amsterdam, a Mexican restaurant near Oosterpark, has been on my must-visit list for a while. However, on numerous occasions, I found myself thinking about making a reservation too late, missing out on the opportunity to try their food. But, just a few weeks ago I had the chance to try almost everything from their menu.

As I entered their terrace, the vibrant atmosphere immediately caught my attention. The lively music and the colorful decor transported me to the lively streets of Mexico.

The evening started off on a high note with a plate of freshly made nachos with ofcourse some guacamole. Unlike the factory-produced ones often found in other restaurants, Bardita takes pride in serving their guests authentic, homemade versions. .

During the initial rounds of ordering, the food lived up to my expectations. The flavors were vibrant, and each bite showcased the care and expertise that went into the preparation. However, as the night progressed and we continued to order additional dishes, I noticed a decline in quality. Some of the dishes appeared dried out, lacking the freshness that characterized the earlier offerings. While they were still enjoyable, it was disappointing to see a decrease in consistency.

Another aspect that left a bittersweet taste was the service. Bardita seemed to struggle with several mistakes in our orders throughout the evening. For instance, we had requested a pitcher of beer and one cocktail, but were served a pitcher with only the cocktail. Additionally, when we ordered extra guacamole alongside our main dishes, we had to ask three times before being informed that they had run out. The coriander we had requested arrived late, after we had nearly finished our meal. These repeated errors left us feeling slightly frustrated, as they disrupted the overall dining experience.

Despite these shortcomings, there was one aspect that stood out in a positive light—the impressive array of hot sauces. A cabinet filled with bottles of various colors and spice levels was definitely a nice touch. We couldn’t resist the temptation and tried ten different varieties.

In conclusion, Bardita is a Mexican restaurant in Amsterdam that offers a promising dining experience. The initial rounds of dishes, including the fresh nachos and tortillas, showcased the restaurant’s dedication to authentic flavors and homemade creations. However, as the night progressed, the quality of the food experienced a decline, with some dishes appearing dried out. Furthermore, the service was not as good as we would have hoped.

Despite these setbacks, Bardita’s vast collection of hot sauces added a touch of excitement to the dining experience, allowing guests to personalize their dishes with a fiery kick. If you’re a fan of Mexican cuisine and find yourself in Amsterdam the food is still good enough to give a a try, but don’t expect the best service.
