Although I found the food to be enjoyable, I couldn’t help but think that there may be better African restaurants in Amsterdam, which only speaks to the high standard of dining options in the city. The quality of the dishes at Abyssinia is commendable, but Amsterdam’s diverse culinary scene means there are numerous places to explore, each offering its unique take on African cuisine.
Unfortunately, our experience at the restaurant was not all positive. We were seated at a table in the second room, right in the middle, which made it difficult to hear ourselves think even when there were only a few other diners in the room. As more people arrived, the noise level increased to the point where it became impossible to have a conversation with each other.
In addition to the noise issue, the restaurant’s seating arrangements could be improved to offer a more comfortable and private dining experience. Despite this, the lively atmosphere and colorful decor do contribute to a unique and engaging dining environment. It’s clear that Abyssinia aims to provide an authentic and enjoyable African experience, and in many ways, it succeeds.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a unique dining experience in Amsterdam, then Abyssinia is well worth a visit. Its lively and colorful decor, friendly staff, and delicious food are sure to make your experience unforgettable. Just be prepared for a bit of noise depending where your table is placed.
