Carmel Market | 8.0

Carmel Market Utrecht is a restaurant that offers a unique dining experience with its stunning and delicious dishes and cocktails. TThe restaurant has a Middle Eastern vibe, but does not serve authentic Middle Eastern food. Despite this, I still really liked the food and the vibe, which blends an inviting atmosphere with visually appealing dishes. However, if you are specifically looking for authentic Middle Eastern cuisine, you should definitely look elsewhere, as Carmel Market’s menu takes a more modern, eclectic approach to its dishes.

The menu is comprised of small to medium-sized plates, perfect for sharing with friends and family. This approach allows you to sample a variety of flavors and textures, making it ideal for those who enjoy trying multiple dishes in one meal. During our visit, we ordered three small plates, four medium plates, and two cocktails, and left feeling completely satisfied. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, with vibrant flavors and artistic presentation that added to the overall dining experience.

While the food was nice, the service unfortunately fell short on some moments. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were not greeted, which was a bit off-putting. When we approached the counter to let them know we had a reservation, the server simply responded with “OK” before turning to her colleague and starting to laugh. This lack of professionalism was noticeable and contrasted sharply with the otherwise welcoming ambiance of the restaurant.

This lady absolutely did not fit this type of restaurant, but thankfully, the rest of the staff made up for it. After we were given the wrong cocktail, the cocktail shaker quickly walked up to us to explain that he had mistakenly brought us the wrong drink. He was polite and efficient, and we were able to keep the incorrect cocktail while receiving the correct one promptly. This quick resolution demonstrated the staff’s commitment to customer satisfaction, despite the initial hiccup.

The restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, but the presentation and the decoration are definitely unique. The interior design of Carmel Market Utrecht is stylish and contemporary, with elements that evoke a chic, cosmopolitan feel. The attention to detail in the decor complements the creative flair of the menu, making for an aesthetically pleasing dining environment. While the cost may be higher than some other options, the overall dining experience—particularly the visual and culinary creativity—justifies the price.

Overall, Carmel Market Utrecht offers a memorable dining experience with its impressive dishes and cocktails. While the service may have had a few hiccups, the quality of the food and the distinctive atmosphere make it a worthwhile visit. If you’re in Utrecht and looking for a place to enjoy inventive cuisine in a stylish setting, Carmel Market is certainly worth considering. Just keep in mind that while the food is delicious and the ambiance is inviting, it’s not an authentic Middle Eastern dining experience. For those open to a modern twist on Middle Eastern-inspired dishes, Carmel Market provides a unique and enjoyable meal.
