As we all know, eating in Amsterdam can be quite expensive, but fear not! I’ve rounded up the top 9 cheap eats in the city that deliver both quality and affordability. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, these spots will satisfy your cravings without breaking the bank.

1. Yuan’s Hotpot

Hotpot at Yuan's hotpot

Yuan’s Hotpot is the perfect place for an affordable yet customizable dining experience. You pay based on what you choose, from a variety of meats, fish, noodles, and veggies. Skewers start at just €1, so you can make it as cheap or fancy as you like. For instance, we spent 3 hours dining with 4 drinks and a pot of tea, opting for premium choices like baby squid and ribeye, all for €40 per person. It’s atmospheric and allows you to craft your meal to your budget.

2. Lucky King en Hong

For a delightful blend of Surinamese and Chinese cuisine, Lucky King en Hong is a must-visit. We spent just €60 for three people and had more food than we could finish, including drinks. The menu is packed with variety, and ordering the large options often provides enough food for two meals. A fantastic option for those wanting to experience a filling, flavorful meal at a great price.

3. Warung Rahayu

Brown beans and sate

A hidden gem for Surinamese-Javanese cuisine, Warung Rahayu offers incredible value. We spent around €35 for two meals, including saté, snacks, and drinks. The portions are huge, ensuring you leave full and satisfied. The restaurant is small but cozy, and they also offer take-away if you’re on the go.

4. Kam Yin

Kam Yin

Another great spot for affordable Surinamese-Javanese food is Kam Yin, which has two locations in Amsterdam. The food is delicious, and the service is top-notch, all for a reasonable price. Whether you’re craving noodles, rice, or something heartier, Kam Yin’s varied menu has you covered without draining your wallet.

5. Noemi

For fresh and affordable South Italian flavors, Noemi is a go-to take-away spot. They offer customizable focaccias, pizzas, and some pastas. A plain focaccia starts at €3.50, but for €7.50, you can get one loaded with meat, cheese, and greens. Their friendly prices and fresh ingredients make Noemi a perfect option for an inexpensive but delicious Italian meal.

6. Freddy Fryday

If you’re in the mood for loaded fries, Freddy Fryday is the place to be. You can choose from nine different options, with normal portions ranging between €10.95 and €11.95. A single serving is large enough to count as a full meal, making this spot a great value for money, especially for those craving comfort food on a budget.

7. Taco Lindo West

At Sardjoe’s Bara, everything is freshly made in front of you, including their signature bara. You can grab a bag of mini baras for €3.50, a regular bara for €2.50, or a filled bara (with options like curried chicken or vegan curry) for €7.50.
